Hearing loss is one of the most widespread — and overlooked — consequences of war injuries in Ukraine. Up to 80% of mine-blast survivors suffer acoustic trauma: ruptured eardrums, inner ear damage, or nerve injury. It leaves no visible wound, yet its effects can be deeply disruptive.
While surgical and burn care drew early donor attention, otolaryngology has been left behind — despite the urgent need for equipment, trained specialists, and care for tens of thousands living with war-related hearing loss.
To spotlight this challenge and drive coordinated action, UA BWB is hosting a webinar: “War-Induced Hearing Loss: Responding to an Escalating Health Challenge.”
